Lillian G. Bond

On Saturday, March 19, 2022, our beloved mother, Lillian G. Bond, was called from labor to her peaceful eternal rest.  She was surrounded by her loving and caring family.  Lillian was born on May 10, 1938, in Suffolk, VA to the late Ivory Jennings and Thomas Goodman.  She was educated in the Suffolk Public School System.  Later Lillian would move to Portsmouth, VA in the Mount Hermon area, where she was further guided by her mother and her stepfather, the late William Boone.  Although she spent most of her life in Portsmouth, our mother often shared the fond memories she had of her experiences in Suffolk, and particularly being with her grandmother, the late Mrs. Alice Jennings.  Lillian Goodman Bond was married to the late Andrew Bond for 27 years.  To this union was born two daughters, Adrienne and Ivy Bond.

To know Lillian Bond was to love her.  On those special occasions during various family and church functions, we would all know her by the cabbage and macaroni and cheese she would prepare for those events.

She loved her children dearly and they truly loved her, as demonstrated by the constant loving care and attention given to her.  She was so proud of her family, and she would tell whoever would listen about the depth of love that she received and always felt because of her family.

Lillian loved the Lord and upon her conversion to Christ, she felt the need to be an active part of the Body of Christ.  She was a faithful member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA for 45 years.  Lillian was a very dedicated member and was recognized for her love and work for the Lord.  She later became a Deaconess.  Deaconess Bond was active in numerous ministries of the church, which included the Youth Ushers, Missionaries, Hospitality, Homeless, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Church Beautification, Pastor’s Aid, Women’s Day Committee and Women’s Day Chairperson.

Lillian was a loving, devoted, and caring mother.  She would always say, “I know my children love me.”

Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Andrew “Jack” Bond; two sons, Melvin Goodman, and Calvin Goodman; one sister, Rosa Slaughter, and two brothers, Thomas Simmons, and Alvester Simmons.

Lillian leaves to cherish her memory her children Larry L. Goodman of Suffolk, Virginia, Dwight Goodman (Linda), Cynthia Locus (Stanford) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Jennifer Goodman-Hayes (William) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Adrienne King (Woodrow) of Suffolk, Virginia, Ivy Bond of Chesapeake, VA and two special daughters Eleanor Harris of Chesapeake, Virginia, and LaCretia White of Portsmouth, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Riddick of Chesapeake, Virginia; grandchildren, Melvin Goodman Jr. (Tara), Tiffany Locus-Elam (Eric), Andrea King, Tiara Locus, Aliah King, Dwight D. Goodman Sr. (Sherion), Ricky Lawrence, Michael Harris, Tristan Hayes, Byron Hayes, Tamika Fischer (Philipp); great-grandchildren, Andre Pitchford (Kia), Jasmine Goodman, Chante’l Goodman, Jordyn Elam, Jaxson Elam, Jaidyn Elam, Alexia-Morgan Harris, Dwight D. Goodman Jr., Daxton Goodman, Jesper Fischer and great-great grandchildren, Aubrey Pitchford, Ayla Pitchford, and a host of friends.
