Our beloved uncle, Richard James”Uncle Junie” Venters Jr. departed this physical life for his heavenly home on July 12, 2018. He was a strong, independent man of God who loved teaching and spreading the word of God ( he loved to give out the Our Daily Bread devotional). He always encouraged those he knew about education as well.
Richard James Venters Jr. was born September 13,1943 to the late Richard Sr. and Emma Venters in New Bern, North Carolina. Soon after his birth, our grandparents moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he was raised and he attended the Norfolk Public School system and graduated from Booker T Washington High School in 1962. Upon graduation,he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served over 18 years before retiring as a E-7 Gunnery Sergeant. Soon after,he began a career as a teacher, where he devoted himself to educate. After over 20 years,he retired. He strived beyond these accomplishments to become an ordained minister,he pushed further to become a Reverend. He was very a very determined, caring person with a good sense of humor. He’s up there now eating Grandma’s chicken and enjoying the presence of our loved ones gone before him.
Uncle Richard was predeceased by his parents, Richard Sr. and Emma Venters, sisters, Hilda Edwards, Marion Venters, Emma Winslow, and Annie Daniels, niece,Linda Brown, nephews, Michael Daniels, Melvin Edwards Jr.,and Nathaniel Edwards.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Johnny Daniels, Sandra Hines, Larry Daniels, Deborah Daniels, Calvin Daniels, Curtis Daniels, Barbara Daniels, Gwendolyn Daniels, Dexter Edwards, and Sonya Daniels. We find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, rest peacefully Uncle Richard. We love you always.
