Pearl Eunice Young

Sunrise: December 1, 1941

Sunset: January 1, 2020

Our beloved Pearl Eunice Young departed this life to be with the Lord while peacefully at rest on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.  She was born to Pearl and Walter Vinson on December 1, 1941 in Courtland, Virginia.

Affectionately known by family members as “Doll Baby”, Pearl absolutely insisted that kindship ties be honored and respected. Pearl possessed natural born leadership characteristics such as integrity, forthrightness, and compassion.  She would demonstrate these virtues with her interaction with family members, friends, and society throughout her life’s journey.  She was always willing to make personal sacrifices, ensuring that what was best for the whole was achieved.

Her dedication to family was unparalleled.  She was a true nurturer with an adventurous spirit, a devoted and loving wife for 50+ years, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Pearl was fond of high quality art work, literature, music, and intellectually stimulating conversation. She also possessed an above average appreciation for and knowledge of the automobiles that she owned. Pearl was loving and kind. She liked to keep things simple with a touch of class.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Norfolk State University in 1985, she would go on to retire after 30+ years of dedicated service in the field of nursing.  Her extensive training, medical knowledge, and her belief in life-long learning enabled her to fulfill her passion to provide critical health care and facilitate student nurses’ practicum experiences during her distinguished career as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Pearl Young, the R.N., was extremely proficient and passionate about her profession.  This passion was also evident as she served as Deaconess and a member of the nursing ministry (Healing Hands) at First Baptist Church Lamberts Point.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Charles F. Young, her father Walter Vinson, her mother Pearl Vinson Lassiter, her brothers Joe Vinson and Walter Vinson, and her sister Dr. Gwendolyn Vinson Holmes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Eura Jewette, Edna Powell (Fred), and Dr. Lois Wright; brothers Robert Vinson (Dyan) and Randolph Vinson; daughter Rotisha Young and five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

To the family of Mrs. Pearl Young,
I am so sorry to learn of the passing of her passing. I was fortunate enough to have her as a nursing instructor at Norfolk State. She was a kind compassionate person who went above and beyond to insure her students were educated, meeting her standards as well as those of NSU. Thank you Mrs.Young for caring may you RIP.
