Mary Lee Pierce

Sunrise: June 4, 1935

Sunset: November 28, 2021

Sorrows come and go just as surely as do the joys of life; yet there is something disquieting, so deeply sorrowful, about the passing of a loved one that we never seem amply prepared for the inevitable occasion.  So, it is with the passing of our beloved widow, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Mary Lee Pierce, 86, of 111 Wynn Street, was called home peacefully to eternal rest on Sunday, November 28, 2021, finalizing her illness. She was born in Halifax County, North Carolina, on June 4, 1935 to the late Lendora Walton and Jim Wilson. She relocated to Norfolk, VA and resided in Portsmouth, VA.

Mary was a presser at a cleaning company in Norfolk, VA prior to her career at General Electric Co. for 20 years and retired as a Hair Stylist after 30 years.  Mary was a member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) for 50+ years.  She was very talented – was a seamstress, loved to cook and cooked the best soul food you would ever taste.  She moved into cosmetology and mastered the skill as a hair stylist.  Mary loved to socialize with her close friends and was a very devoted wife and mother.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Altheria Alexander of Suffolk, VA, Valerie Hinton of Chesapeake, VA, Cherie Lee of Portsmouth, VA; one son, Johnny Pierce of Portsmouth, VA, five grandchildren, Isaiah Hinton, Daniela Alexander, Demetrius Hinton, Rosalind Alexander, Alexis Pierce; three great-grandchildren, Nishara Branch, Angel Hughes, and Ra’neal Hughes; one brother, James (Carol) Wilson; nephew, James (Eleanora) Pierce of Norfolk, VA; great nephew, Aaron Pierce, and a host of many friends.
