A phenomenal woman was called home on Thursday, November 18, 2021. She was peacefully escorted by the angels of God to dwell by his side in that house not made with hands.

Cynthia Marie Hudson was born on August 6th, 1955 in Portsmouth Virginia, the oldest daughter of Susie Lee and Morris Overton. She proudly attended Portsmouth Public Schools and shortly after graduation she enrolled in a Culinary Arts Program at I.C. Norcom High School becoming one of the most amazing chefs we know. After many years as head chef for Mayfair Housing Facility, she continued her career trajectory at Portsmouth General Hospital. Everyone knew “Cynt could not be outcooked”. She took ownership and had a substantial sense of pride when it came to her craft and nurturing others. She remained at Portsmouth General Hospital until health concerns caused her to retire early. Although this was a hard decision for her, it would be the start of a new adventure for the Overton sisters.

They found a church! As a faithful servant of Dunamis Christian Center, she was able to focus on serving God which has always been her ultimate goal. Cynt never had to be in the spotlight, she humbly made her presence known by being the most authentic human to everyone she met. She loved to sing and praise God with her favorite person, her little sister Rose. They were inseparable! Like her mother, Cynt had no desire to drive. However, that wouldn’t stop her because her sister drove for a living. Wherever you saw Rose, you saw Cynt. You could catch them at Golden Coral (everyday) or having breakfast at McDonald’s.

She was so happy with the little things in life. Her three favorite things were having a Mcgriddle in the morning, playing word search puzzles to keep her brain sharp and watching Family Feud all day. It didn’t matter that she had dialysis three times a week for many years, she did it with a smile to continue enjoying the small things in life. What was special about her was she never passed judgment, was easy to talk to and gave amazing advice. If you knew her, you knew she had such a big heart and was always a source of positivity.

Once her sister passed away early last year, Cynt moved to Washington State to be closer to her grandchildren. She wanted to build memories that would last a lifetime and her babies entertained her night and day. She could be found giving them candy all day and giving them a hard time when the sugar rush kicked in. Mason brought the energy, Tyler kept her dancing and laughing, D’Andre was her word search puzzle partner and J’sean was her soldier boy (he was a constant protector and confidant) while Amber was her own personal assistant (finding every item she lost on a daily basis).

She enjoyed Washington, the mountains and especially the trees she lovingly referred to as “Christmas trees”. To ensure she continued to feel the love from Virginia, her Dee-Dee was a constant in her life. She talked with Dee-Dee every day and was spoiled beyond her dreams. Her oldest son Claude and his wife Diane also kept in contact with her often bringing her life full circle. She would light up when she got a call from her best friend Mamie or her brother Willie. They never missed a moment that mattered in her life.

Cynt was predeceased by her parents along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. She leaves behind two sons to cherish memories, Dwight Day’s Jr. (Jeanetta); Claude Overton (Diane); one brother, Willie Overton (Linda); Four grandsons (J’sean Glasper Days, D’andre Days, Tyler Days, and Mason Days) (Tyeisha ) one granddaughter Amber Nathaniel Days (Jeanetta). She also leaves behind many relatives and friends whom she will continue to love for eternity.
