Elnora Delores Smith

Dr. Elnora Delores Smith entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in the comfort of her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was called “Lois” by her family and close friends.  She was born on April 2, 1944, to the late Mary L. Wooden and Joseph Sellers Sr. 

Dr. Elnora Smith graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1962. While attending Norfolk State University 3 nights a week, she became one of the first women to work in Shop 67 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard located in Portsmouth, Virginia. There she worked her way to the top of  her classification and received various wards, certification and was nominated for the Zero Defects honor. She accepted Christ at an early age, and in 1976  re-dedicated her life . She was formerly a member of Holy Light Church of Deliverance. There, she accepted God’s calling to spread the Word of God to everyone she met by way of teaching New Converts, Outreach, and Jail ministry. She attended Virginia Union University and obtained her Doctorate of Ministry from Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology.   She met Deacon William “Smitty” Smith and the couple later settled in Hampton, Virginia where they united with Faith Deliverance Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Bennie L Kingwood Sr..  There she continued her devotions by becoming a Chaplin. 

Dr. Elnora loved to travel and fellowship with her family. She often spoke of memories from cruises to distant countries and road trips to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Florida to visit out-of-town family members.

Dr. Elnora Smith is predeceased by her husband, William Smith Jr., a daughter Andria Hills and her loving dog Angel,  two sisters, Doris Cooke and Paula Hyater and a special cousin, Vernetta Monk.   She is survived by her two daughters, Adrienne Towe Fisher (Dwain), and  Angela M Hudson (special friend Glen), three sisters, Chris Hayes, Vivian Hardy (Wesley) and Deborah Rivers (Michael Sr.) , two brothers, James Sellers (Jeanette) and Joseph Sellers;  5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a special niece Tonya Lomax and a host nieces and nephews,  family and friends.
