Cornelia Ann Whitney, a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend died peacefully on June 30, 2022, surrounded by family.
Cornelia a.k.a Connie was the seventh child born to Thurston and Cornelia Whitaker on December 3, 1937 in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, class of 1957.
For over 50 years, Connie had a career working as a hairstylist. She was skillful in her craft and inspired some of her relatives to become hairstylists as well. In her spare time, Connie loved to go crabbing and playing bingo.
Connie had such a fiery, fun and high-spirited personality. To know her was to love her as she never met a stranger. When she greeted you, she always said, “Hey Baby”! Connie was the life of the party. She loved to dance and just have a good time with family and friends.
Connie was reared in a Christian home, receiving Christ as her Lord and Savior at Shiloh Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Connie always showed much love to her entire family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurston Whitaker and Cornelia Whitaker and six siblings, John Whitaker, Thurston Whitaker Jr, Horace Whitaker, Joseph Whitaker, James Whittaker and Penina Wells.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Bridgette R. Whitney and Valetta V. Lazaro (David), grandchildren, Ryan A. Whitney, Ciara M. Whitney a.k.a. Javeisha Jeffries and Chase J. Whitney, one great-grandson, Dylan J. Jeffries, close friends, Noble L. Whitney Sr. and Ida Bracey and a special lady named Lisa Kelly, who looked after and took great care of Connie. Cherishing her memory are her siblings, Raymond Whittaker, Bernice Howard (Theodore), Andrew Whitaker (Hyacinth), Christine Hayes and Maxine Lewis, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

July 14, 2022 at 8:30 pmI met Ms. Connie about 20 years ago at JCPenney hair salon. She was, in fact, always the life of the party. She had a dynamic personality, which will be dearly missed!
