Cecil B. Butler, Sr.

At the age of 89, Cecil made his transition to his ancestors on August 8, 2023. He is predeceased by three (3) brothers and one (1) sister: Mr. Ulysses (Otis) Butler, Mr. Walter Charles (Sanchez) Butler, Mr. Hasan Ali, and Mrs. Kathleen Butler Bosic. In addition, he is predeceased by a few cherished grandchildren. He was born in Montrose, GA on February 13, 1934, son of the late Ulysses and Katherine Blackshear Butler. He attended local schools in Waterbury, CT. He joined the United States Air Force and served as a dedicated Military Police Officer. Upon being honorably discharged from his service, Cecil was employed at Pratt Whitney Aircraft. During the 1960s, he enjoyed his role as radio personality “Big Daddy Ole Soul” on Waterbury’s radio station WTBY. In the early 1970s, Cecil moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. His love for music inspired him to own a local record store. Upon closing his record store, he worked as a department head for Montgomery Wards. Later in life, Cecil returned to radio as “The Hot Sauce Man” on Norfolk’s Gospel radio station WPCE. He enjoyed playing uplifting gospel music. He was a basketball enthusiast, and often reflected on his brief playing days in the Continental Basketball Association. In addition, he mentored many young men. From his first martial union to Minnie Heart Butler, he leaves behind two (2) sons and two (2) daughters: Mr. Abu Ali and his wife Louders of San Jose, CA, Mr. Michael B. Butler and his wife April, Mrs. Zaire Hunter and her husband Earl, and Ms. Devie Butler all residing in Waterbury, CT. At the time of his transition, he was the husband of Cynthia E. Butler. He leaves behind one (1) son: Mr. Patriece L. Butler and his wife, Felecia of North Chesterfield, VA. Cecil had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be missed, and his legacy will live on.
