Alescia Dominique Dunbar was born December 11, 1990 at Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was christened by the late Bishop Barnett Thoroughgood at New Jerusalem COGIC in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In her early childhood her aunts took pleasure dressing her up like a doll and bringing her to the church each Sunday.
Alescia attended Sherwood Forest Elementary where she fell in love with drawing and earned numerous awards and honors. Alescia went on to Norview Middle School and graduated from Norview High School in 2009. She earned her associate degree from Tidewater Community College in Graphic Design Multimedia and formed a freelance design company in her name after her training. Alescia began service in 2016 with the Future Teacher Academy grant project where she served as the project’s Multimedia Specialist until 2020. She continued her service as the Norfolk State University School of Education’s Multimedia Technology Assistant in the Praxis Lab, until she became a member of the Norfolk State University ‘s Spartans Teach Team in 2023 where she served as the Spartans Teach Model Classroom Assistant.
She was a great community supporter. Each year, the Save Our Community Kids Services (SOCKS) would sponsor initiatives to help the underserved in the community. They could always count on Alescia to show up with toys, food, and finances to help the program succeed. She participated in the Christmas Toy Drive/ Give away, Easter Egg hunts each year to name a few. This Year, Alescia will be the first to receive the SOCKS, “Alescia Dominique Dunbar Award”, established to honor her great legacy and will be given away each to honor community service leaders, who exemplified the same spirit that she has shown to the community.
Alescia was thoughtful, polite, quiet in manner, but efficient, meticulous, reliable, dedicated, supportive, diligent and hardworking.
Alescia leaves to cherish her memory her father, Lamont Tyler and mother, Alison Dunbar of Norfolk, VA. Her aunts, Kimberly Smith, Celena Scott and Janet Tyler. Her uncles Eric Dunbar and Charles Tyler. Siblings Lamont, Monty, Monica and Michelle. Her cousins Antonio, Deonte Scott, Kiedae Smith, Deondre Scott, and Devon. Six great aunts, Lena G Dunbar, Jacqueline Dunbar, Ella D Dunbar, Annett Dunbar, Aleta R. Williams and Nina A. Leigh. May 6, 2024 at 7:26 pmIt has been a privilege and honor to raise a daughter as lovely as you. You’ve never given me a day of trouble. I’m going to miss our early morning texts. When I was down, you would always find a way to pick me up. Just a look and a smile from you would do the trick. For 33 years, you’ve been my best friend. I will cherish and love you for the rest of my life. Love, Dad
