Verlie Ann Phillips, was born on November 15, 1940 to Christine Porter-Lawson and Hammie Lawson in Camden, SC. She departed this life at home surrounded by family on September 21, 2018.

She was baptized at Campostella Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church in Norfolk, VA. She later joined Mount Carmel Baptist church under the leadership of Bishop CV Russell, Jr. She retired as a civil worker from Naval Base, Norfolk, VA., and in her later years worked as a homecare provider for the elderly.

No one was a stranger to “Ann”, everyone that knew her loved her. She loved to cook and shop.

Verlie was preceded in death by her parents: Christine Porter-Lawson and Hammie Lawson; Sisters Mary Lawson Alexander; Ruth Handy and Brothers; Hammie Lawson Jr.; and James Lawson.  

Verlie leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her children Claudia Wilson (Reynolds) of Virginia Beach, VA, Terry Lawson (Danita) of Norfolk, VA, Fred Phillips Jr. (Nika) of Virginia Beach, VA, Karen Turner (Michael) of Waverly, VA, Kevin Phillips Sr. of Norfolk, VA; four sisters, Francine Nichols, Irene Overton, Geneva Fallis, Loretta Lawson and two brothers, Joseph Lawson and Clarence Lawson, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
