Robert Reed

Robert Reed was born August 25, 1953 in Newark, New Jersey (Essex County) to his late mother, Bessie May Reed and late father, James Reed. He is also known by his nickname Poochie; whom departed his life in the comfort of his home in Portsmouth, Virginia on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Robert Reed went to school in the Newark Public School System. He graduated from Central High School. After graduating high school he joined law enforcement and then later began operating his own business as a General Contractor. He enjoyed working with his hands and spending time with his family and childhood friend and most dearest brother-in-law James Watkins. He is known to be a loving, understanding, great listener, caring, and comforting husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents; eldest brother, Willie Reed, youngest brother, Daryl Reed; and one sister, Francis Robinson. Robert Reed is survived by his loving wife Laura Echols-Reed over 50 years; sister, Deloris Schell; brother, Samuel Wylie; six children: Laua Jr., April, Danny, Charlene, Faith and Michelle; grandchildren: Lawrence, James, Rasheedah, Shawanna, Tariq, Lakiesha, Danny, Rashawn, Ty’airah, Shanequah, Chelayyah, Myasia, Elijah, Isiah, Izahna; two sons-in-law: Deon Granby and Rahman Stewart; and a host of other surviving family and friends.
