On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, Paul A. Reed, 64, went peacefully to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by the love of his wife, Dr. Joanne Williams-Reed, as he slipped away. Paul was born September 26, 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Reed and JoAnn Holt Reed. He was predeceased by his brother Ervin Reed. He graduated from Carver High School, Birmingham, Alabama. After graduation, Paul immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Having served 20 years, he retired honorably as a Chief Petty Officer (CPO). Paul continued to work in Logistics for the next 25 years.

Paul received many honors and recognitions, such as: the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal,Good Conduct Medal, Battle”E” Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and was a member of the Masonic Fraternity.

Paul was a no nonsense and straight forward person. He believed in discipline and integrity. Paul never wanted accolades and gifts for himself. However, he would give to others. He was a man you could depend on. He cherished being loved and respected by his son, JeVon, godson, Richard, Jr., and other boys to men in the neighborhood: Phillip, Benjamin, Vince, Darryl, Jr., George, Trey, Grant, and Deontae.

Paul is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dr. Joanne Williams-Reed; son, JeVon Williams-Reed; granddaughters, Auriel Williams-Reed (7 years old) and Harmony Williams-Reed (1 year old); goddaughter, Sandra (Kevin) Fonville. He was also survived by three brothers, Henry (Mary) Johnson of Birmingham, AL, Ronnie (Artemise) Johnson of Maylene, AL, and Stanley (Jeraldine) Reed of Birmingham, AL; four sisters, Carol Reed Cooke of Pinson, AL, Emily (Pastor Darryl) Nichols, Emma (Herbert) Dukes of Birmingham, AL, and Rita Golden of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

    My heartfelt condolences to Joanne and the entire Reed family. There are no words that I can express to soothe the pain you must be going through. However, do know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. I wish you strength for today and hope for tomorrow.     I am still in shock that my Brother is gone. My heart goes out to Jo and Jevon and may God comfort them.

    Paul was a man of principle with a heart of gold. I will forever be in your debt for taking care of my family when I was away. I always knew that they were in good hands because of you.

    Rest in Paradise until we meet again. I am going to miss you.

    My heart is so heavy with the loss of my neighbor of 25 years. Paul & Joanne weren’t just neighbors but great friends. I always felt safe with Paul looking out for me, appreciative of his recommendations re household repairs, lawn care, etc. Paul will be GREATLY missed.
