Sunset: December 15, 2018

Mary Francis Twine, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina after a courageous battle with heart and respiratory conditions. Her son was by her side and her family was in her heart at the passing of her spirit.

Mary Francis was born July 8, 1929, in Sunbury, NC, to Edward and Mary Sutton. She was a longtime resident of Norfolk, Virginia; three years ago, she moved to Charlotte, NC. She was the last survival of Edward and Mary Sutton seven children.

Mary was the loving and devoted wife of James Stanley Twine Sr. (deceased).

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Bennett-Scruggs; sons, James Twine Jr., Allen Twine, Paul Twine, Gerard Twine; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  One son, Donald Twine preceded her in death.

Mary Francis truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, snacking, and spending time with her grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Mary had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Her greatest aspiration was to become a school teacher.  She did not achieve a formal teaching certificate but through her wisdom, she inspired and helped people learn the fundamentals of life.  A long time Jehovah’s Witness, she loved and looked forward to her bible studies and spreading Jehovah’s word. Mary worked in the family’s business and touched the lives of many people with her smile, kind heart, and her sense of humor which she maintained through the end of life. She enjoyed music, videos and social activities based in the Jehovah’s Witness teachings.

Affectionately called Mom, Mrs. Mary Twine was like a second mother to me with her compassionate, gentle heart and kind nature. Even though she will be missed by all of us still here on this earth, we will carry her in our hearts and know that she is still shining her Love and Light upon us as bright as the stars. Many thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace are extended to family and friends.
