Mable Patricia Vandora Wilson

Sunrise: January 28, 1945

Sunset: December 18, 2020

On Friday, December 18, 2020, God said, “No more pain, No more suffering, No more fighting; it’s time to come home, my child!” And so, she went to her Father’s eternal home. Mable Patricia Vandora Brock Wilson was born in Norfolk, Virginia on Sunday, January 28, 1945 to the late T. Sgt. Garfield and Alice E. Brooks.  She was the oldest of six children.  Her beloved siblings affectionately called her “Pat.”

She was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools System, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk Virginia, and attending post-high school business classes, where she earned several certificates.  She went on to work at Phillips Seafood until becoming ill.  She was a strong woman, who fought through many illnesses, enjoyed cooking big meals, and spending time with family and her grandchildren, the light of her life.

Next to family, Mable’s other true love was God and church.  In August 1993, she became a member of the Historical First Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia, under the pastorate of the late Dr. J. L. White, Sr.  She faithfully attended Sunday School and the early morning church services.  She was a member of the Early Morning Choir and served faithfully on the Female Usher Board No. 1.  There wasn’t a special service, anniversary, or program missed by Mable.

Mable will now join her mother and father, T.Sgt. Garfield and Alice E. Brooks, her late husband, Alonzo Wilson, Sr., and one sister, Gloria Stanton.  She leaves to cherish her memory: four sons, Timothy J. Brock Sr. (Bernette), Alonzo Wilson Jr., Marcus Wilson, and Sidney Wilson; two brothers, Terry Brock (Joycelyn) and Alan Vernell Brock; two sisters, Cheryl Brown (John) and Kathy Roberts; 16 grandchildren, Timothy Brock Jr., Brandon Brock, Shunikwa Godfrey, Alonzo Wilson III, Taylor Fitchett, Deon Taylor, Kenya Taylor, Mauricio Scales, Dominicia Wilson, Terrion Spruill, Sidney Wilson Jr., Samiya Wilson, Simahd Wilson, Maurice Wilson, Myles Wilson, and Sydney Wilson; 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

That’s a beautiful photo of Pat. My dad, Joe Butler, was very sad to hear of Pat’s passing. He reminisced about them growing up in the same Titustown home as well as their kinship, like that of a brother and sister. Pat was loved and will be missed. I am happy that we have good memories of times shared with Pat. May God Bless you all.
