Lee Wesley Smith, Sr.

Our beloved father and loving husband, Lee Wesley Smith, Sr.  passed away peacefully in his home in Spotsylvania VA on June 6, 2023, at the age of 87.  He lived a life of service to God, his church, the community and others.  He was involved in and led various civic and community organizations where he held significant roles.  He was an Army Veteran and worked in the Federal Civil Service for 30 years where he managed the day-to-day operations of Federal Office sites in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and various other states. He owned and operated numerous businesses after retiring from Federal Service.

He first met the love of his life Berdia Smith while stationed at Fort Hood in Texas and they built a happy life together for 67 years.

He was born in Princess Anne County, VA on July 16, 1935, and resided in Va. Beach, Chesapeake, Richmond, Spotsylvania, VA and Parkersburg, West Virginia.

He leaves behind his wife, Berdia, three children, Joyce Smith of Spotsylvania, VA,  Oprail (Brian) Phillips of Milton, GA and Debbie Smith of Fredericksburg, VA, five grandchildren, Courtney (Jonathan) Bracey of Orlando FL, Brian Phillips, Jr., of Washington DC ; Lee Wesley Smith, III of Atlanta GA, Jeremy Phillips and Kelsey Phillips of Milton, GA, one sister, Bertha Ferebee of Va. Beach VA, one sister-in-law, Odeal Buhl of Houston TX, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lee Wesley Smith, Jr., parents, James and Viola Smith, brother, Alfonzo Smith, sisters, Florence Allen, Martha Young, Vivian Person, and Norma Drew.
