On Sunday, July 21, 2019 our beloved Kevin E. Ricks departed this life and passed into the loving arms of our heavenly Father at Chesapeake Regional Hospital. Kevin was born August 4, 1954 in Norfolk county, now Chesapeake, VA, to the late Wallace M. and Sarah V. Ricks.
He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School. Kevin was employed with Norfolk Ship Building and Dry Dock Co. for 20 years where he became the first black Dock Master. After leaving NSBDD CO he was employed with Smithfield Packing and Universal Building Supplies for several years. He then retired. Kevin enjoyed interacting with family and friends, and he loved cooking and listening to music.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his children; Kevin Taj, Taneisha (Michael) Holland, Travis Nichols, Melvin Tanner (CJ) and Roderic Elliot; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; sister, Deborah Martin of Norfolk; brother, Wallace (Crystal) Ricks of Portsmouth. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Iris Blowe; brother, Emmett Creekmore; his Special Beloved, Melvina Tanner. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
His family and friends praised him for his strength, integrity, and his wisdom. We shall surely miss our father and brother for the time he spent with us. To God be the Glory for all the great things he has done.

September 11, 2024 at 3:13 pmHey Papa, it’s been a few years since you passed and we (Dad, CJ, Zoe, and I) still miss you every day, we even have a picture of you and grandma up on the wall in the living room. I just wanted to say that I’m sad that you’re gone but happy that you aren’t suffering anymore. You were such a strong man and I love you so much and wish you were still here with us but again, I’m happy that you aren’t suffering anymore. I still remember your funeral, I wish I had said more up at that podium but I was so young I just didn’t know what to say. All that to say, I miss you but am glad that you aren’t suffering anymore and that you and grandma can be happy together now that neither of you are suffering any longer
