Gene “Barry” Hill was born on July 24, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Dorothy M. Hill and Michael Dudley. The Lord called him home on July 30, 2023.
Barry was educated in the Norfolk public school system. Barry had a magnetic personality and was known for his love of playing dominoes and spades with friends and family. He was passionate about basketball, but always felt disadvantaged due to his height. He never let his height get in the way of his love of the game. Barry honed his skills and developed a playing style that relied on speed (he was quick as lightning!), agility, and strategy rather than brute force. Through sheer determination and hard work, Barry quickly became a dominant force on the court, outplaying even the tallest of opponents. He lived his life with a heart of gold, always lending a helping hand to those in need. His altruistic nature was evident in his willingness to assist anyone who needed it. Throughout his life, he remained devoted to his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor, and kind heart. He touched the lives of many during his time on earth and will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a son Omar Brinson and grandchildren; sister, Toni M. Hill-Lucas (Andre’) of Chester, VA; six brothers, Jeffrey Hill of Norfolk, VA, Denaldo M. Hill of Chester, VA, Dino S. Hill (Patricia) of Chesapeake, VA; and Troy L. Hill (Vickie) of Norfolk, VA; Mark and Gary Dudley of Norfolk, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy M. Hill; his father Michael Dudley; wife Toi Hill; brother Mark Hill; brother Reginald Hill; sister Jennifer Hill; and brother Walter Dudley.
