On the morning of Friday, September 8, 2023, Evelyn Lucille Claggion peacefully made her heavenly transition from labor to rest. She was born on August 18, 1934 to the late Anderson and Ruth Beale in Queen City area of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
“EL”, as she was affectionally known to most, attended high school, nursing school and then she went on to perform various domestic jobs until her retirement. In all of her positions, she exemplified integrity, dedication, commitment and always gave her best. She met and married William “LC” Claggion and from that union six children were born. Evelyn accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a member of Greater St. Andrews AME Church where she served in many ministries until her health started to decline.
Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh so contagious that you would leave her presence in great joy. She was a virtuous woman that loved her family and loved family gatherings especially the family’s annual “Queen City Day.” Her legacy of wisdom and love will pass on to others whose lives she has touched.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Anderson and Ruth Beale, Son; William “Skip” Claggion, Daughter; Gwendolyn Sanderson; and siblings; Helen Toliver, Agnes “Bunny” Creecy and Rosa Mae Creecy. She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her children; Maurice (Winsome) Claggion, Alan Claggion, Dennis Claggion, and Wayne Claggion; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one brother; Purcell Beale and three sisters; Shirley Dillard, Emma Harold and Hattie Beale. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss her dearly.
