Clifton P. Brooks Sr. was born to the late Clifton L. Brooks and Essie L. Brooks on February 18, 1950. Clifton, affectionately known as Sonny to all his family and close friends accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He was educated in the Norfolk public school system and later joined the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Bragg Army base in North Carolina. Sonny served four years in the Army before receiving an honorable discharge. After leaving the Army, he returned home to Norfolk where he obtained a job with the city of Norfolk in the sanitation department. Sonny was employed with the city of Norfolk for 24 years before having to medically retire due to an on-the-job injury. Although he was retired, you could still find him sometimes doing what he loved, which was working on cars, a trade that he learned in high school. Sonny was predeceased by his son Clifton P. Brooks Jr and his granddaughter Denell N. Brooks. Everyone that knew Sonny knew that he loved to laugh and joke and that he was a true Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan. Sonny was one who never knew a stranger because he could strike up a conversation with anyone that he met and once you met Sonny, you would never forget him because he left an impression when he left your presence. Sonny will be missed greatly by those who loved and knew him. A ray of sunshine and laughter has left us, but the mark that he left behind will never be forgotten. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Inez Brown. Five Children LaDonya Steger (William) of Norfolk, VA, Stephenie Lee (Terence) Of Detroit, MI Lamont Brooks Sr (Dionne) of Chesapeake, VA Kateia Barrett (Paul) of Charlotte, NC and Travon Brooks of Greensboro, NC. August 15, 2023 at 1:39 pmExtending my deepest sympathies for the loss of your Father. Mr. Sonny was truly apart of my childhood as I am his daughter’s best friend, he was very silly and supported Kateia animals she would bring home. I shall continue to remember only great memories. Sleep in peace Mr Brooks
