On Monday, December 18, 2023, Christa Lashley, 54, transitioned home to be with the Lord at Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA.
Christa was born on April 2, 1969 in Portsmouth, VA to George Robert Lashley and Teresa Lashley. At an early age, she began asking for a baby brother and was delighted when he finally arrived seven years later.
Christa was educated in Portsmouth and was a member of the dynamic I. C. Norcom Marching Band and was Captain of the Flag Squad. While at Norcom she was selected to attend the Virginia Magnet School of Performing Arts for students with unique talent. Christa’s specialty was Drama and Acting. She was also a member of the Debate Team, the Drama Club and was well known for Speech Writing and Public Speaking. She was so talented with speaking that she was elected by her Senior Class to give a special speech at their Graduation Ceremony. She received a standing ovation.
To further her education, she attended Norfolk State University, then transferred to Bluefield University (Bluefield, VA) and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Subsequently, she attended American University (Washington, DC) and received a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership & Development. She later took courses at Regent University (VA Beach, VA) towards a Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership.
Christa was employed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth for 17 years beginning as a Ward Clerk and advanced to the Quality Management Department as Lead of the Quality Improvement Program. She received many awards and accolades for Outstanding Service and Superior Job Performance, including the prestigious NMCP Employee of the Year Award. She accepted a position at Washington Hospital Center (Washington, DC) as an Organizational Change Management Specialist Lead. Upon relocating to the local area, she became an Adjunct Professor of Business and Human Resources at Bryant & Stratton University and Strayer University (VA Beach, VA).
Christa loved the Lord and began her religious background at Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth VA, from a young child through adulthood. She continued her faith in God by attending Oakwood Chapel Disciples Church and was a member of The School of Prophets Blessings Ministries, Norfolk, VA, under the leadership of Apostle Geraldine F. Holloway. She loved reading the Bible and fellowshipping with God.
She was a very loving, cheerful compassionate person who always desired to be a help to others as much as she could. She had a special way of cheering people up, never met a stranger, and could hold on-going conversations with friends and strangers for hours. Most people who met her became quickly endeared to her. Her smile could turn a bad day into a joyous one. She always had a genuine concern for the welfare of others. She was just a sweet person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Christa was preceded in death by her father, George Lashley; Grandparents, Frances Barrett, Jesse L. Barrett, Thomas Brown, Lula Brown, Robert Lashley and Helen Lashley; Aunt, Bonita Doggett; Great Aunts & Great Uncle, Maxine Wright, Ann Smith, Dallas Hampton, Velma Lashley and James Lashley.
She leaves to cherish her memory her Mother, Teresa Lashley; Brother, Brent Lashley; Sister-in-Law, Susie Lashley; Nephew, Jacob Lashley (Dijuana); Nieces, Koa Lashley and Nyves Lashley; Aunt, Tomietta Brown (Dara); Uncle, Walter Donnell (Naomi); God-Parents, Pat and Frank Parker; her Fiance and Soul-Mate, Kenneth Blizzard; Best Girl Friends, Thomasine Dawson-Parker, Barbara Mosley, Althea Allen and Deborah Ray-Brooks; and a host of other relatives and friends.

December 24, 2023 at 9:25 amI offer my sincere condolences to the entire Lashley Family as you mourn the loss of Christa. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal…
As far back as my memory goes, I remember Christa for we grew up in church together (same age group). From activities that go back even before grade school, such as Vacation Bible School and the Children’s Choir, I remember Christa.
I truly believe that God will not put us on anything that we cannot bear; if we but trust in Him with all our heart. I encourage you to cherish the pleasant memories and allow God to comfort and keep you today and in days/years to come; until you meet again…
To Ms. Theresa, Brent and the entire Lashley Family, Be blessed and comforted, in Jesus’ name.
With sincere sympathy,
Michael Williams and Family
