Yvonne D. Lane, 69, peacefully transitioned on May 29, 2025, in her home in Norfolk, Virginia, surrounded by the love and care of her sons. Born on June 6, 1955, in Norfolk, Yvonne was a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose uplifting spirit and selfless heart touched countless lives.
Yvonne grew up in the Berkley neighborhood of Norfolk, raised by her parents, Willie and Fannie Bell Woodard. She shared a special bond with her cousins Sheila, Carolyn, and Mickey, whom she lovingly called her sisters, and maintained close relationships with her siblings, Rose, Arthur (Butch), and Willie “Yankee” Woodard. Yvonne’s life was further enriched when she married John C. Lane, known affectionately as Johnboy. Together, they devoted themselves to raising their sons and daughter—Darnell, Mont, Lisha, Torey, Aaron, and Diante —instilling in them life lessons and values of kindness and generosity. Yvonne and John worked tirelessly to provide for their family while always extending a helping hand to others.
Known for her humor and wit, Yvonne delighted in teaching her sons and spending time with her beloved grandchildren: Sherrelle, Shanica, Monshae, Monica, Precious, Layla, and Montell, and watching over her nieces and nephews. In her free time, she enjoyed leisurely walks through her favorite stores, Burlington and the Salvation Army Thrift Store, where she found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Yvonne’s sweet, loving, and caring nature left an indelible mark on her family and community. Her willingness to help others without hesitation and her uplifting spirit, encouraging words, and healing prayers will be forever cherished. She now rests peacefully in heaven, reunited with her late husband, John C. Lane.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tia Nelson for her dedicated support over the past year and to the friends and family who have shown their love and appreciation for Yvonne during this time. Thank you for the outpouring of support as we grieve together and celebrate the beautiful soul who blessed our lives.
Rest peacefully in heaven, Yvonne. Your love and legacy will live on forever.

June 11, 2025 at 9:49 pmSending my deepest condolences, prayers and love to the Lane family. As a child Mrs.Yvonne was one of the Vernon Dr neighborhood mothers out Diggs Park. If my grandmother wasn’t home, she would send me to sit at Mrs. Yvonne or Mrs. Elizabeth house. Oh what great memories I had as a child. Mrs. Yvonne was always the sweetest. A few years ago her niece Sherita reached out and invited me to a surprise bday party for her. It felt so good seeing her and having her meet my kids. I will forever hold onto those sweet childhood memories. Sitting outside playing a little longer or hanging out with Tory while Mrs. Yvonne, my grandMOM, aunt and Mrs. Elizabeth chat while during those block parties in the big field. I was too young but always enjoyed the music. Rest Easy beautiful!!
