Ms. Yolanda Rosso departed this life to be with the Lord while joining her son, Robert J. Hill Jr., on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was the daughter of Teresa Rivera (deceased), born in 1920 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Yolanda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed. Yolanda married Robert J. Hill Sr. in Brooklyn, New York on September 24, 1966. Their daughter Monica Hill and son Robert J. Hill Jr. (deceased) were born in that reunion. Despite the two drifting apart, they still were loving parents. Years later, Yolanda met Bobby L. Keyes. During their time together, their son Andre L Keys was born. After working long hours for many years at the Gimble department store, Yolanda moved her family from Dyckman Projects in Manhattan, New York, to Queens (Laurelton), New York, in 1982. While living in Laurelton, the family made many great memories. After closing Gimble’s, Yolanda took her talent and knowledge to Publishing Clearing House in Hempstead, Long Island, where she retired. Once her children became adults, Yolanda moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she stepped out on faith and opened her own boutique, Yoly’s Place. In a published article in The News Journal of Delaware, Yolanda was interviewed about her new business. She was so happy to be a proud boutique owner and stated that customers would purchase two or three church hats at a time. After the passing of her son, Robert J. Hill, in 2009, Yolanda decided to move closer to family in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in Virginia, Yolanda was an assistant for Auntie’s Daycare and nutritional aid in Chesapeake Public Schools. Yolanda always loved kids and wanted to be a part of the village that raised them. Yolanda had a strong belief on respect and love. She was always a listening ear for advice, but trust and believe you may not like her advice, LOL. Yolanda always had a love for God. She recognized that God loved her, and she trusted Him. Yolanda often said, “I’m not worried about anything; God got me”. Yolanda loved to fish with her good friend Barbara Berry from Queens, New York. Their friendship was unmatched. Yolanda also loved to show her skill off by baking homemade cheesecakes, making empanadas with her grandchildren, and cooking stew chicken and Spanish rice. Left to cherish her life, two sisters, Meche Mercedes Urquidez and Cooney Ramona Velazquez; Monica Hill, daughter; Andre Keys (Charisse), son; grandkids: Serena Nixon, Xavier Simmons, Johnathan Hill (Aubrey), Chakema White, Chaniya Keys, and Ja’den Keys; great grandkids: Jace Hill, Eliyas Hill, Cameron Ervin. She also leaves behind a host of family members and friends.
