Yolanda Anne Powell

Sunrise: June 15, 1963

Sunset: June 1, 2025

Yolanda Anne Powell was born on June 15, 1963, to the late Theodore and Eva Marie Carroll. At 61 years of age, she gained her angelic wings quietly in her home on the grand rising of Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Yolanda grew up in the South Hill area of Chesapeake. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Theodore and Flonzora B. Carroll. Yolanda graduated from Oscar Frommel Smith High School in 1981. For most of her youth, she attended First Baptist South Hill, where she was an active member of the choir and usher board. She worked as a food service manager for the Chesapeake Public School System for several years. She was also the owner of  LaMira’s Y&L Enterprises LLC, alongside her daughter, for 15 years. She was always on the move. She kept herself busy by attending football and basketball games, musical events, parties,  and other activities. Regardless of the event, she made sure to be there. She enjoyed quality time with her loving husband of 42 years, whether it was trips to the park, coffee outings, or simply sitting outside of their home listening to music. She prioritized spending quality time with each of her children. In her quiet time, she enjoyed reading the bible. She loved to dance. Anytime you see her, you are always guaranteed to see her beautiful smile. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, and friend. She loved people, and she will be missed tremendously.

Yolanda was preceded in death by her loving grandparents, mother, and father.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Walter Powell Sr.; her three children, LaShawna D. Powell, Walter R. Powell, Jr. (LaToya), and Warren Powell, Sr. (Christina); five siblings, Melvin Carroll, Troy Carroll, Derrick Carroll, Kenny Carroll, and Lisa Carroll; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives & friends.

Yolanda will forever be in our hearts, and always will be with us.

I want to express my heartfelt condolences to Ronnie and the family. I was saddened to hear of Landa’s passing. I will never forget her laughter. Whenever I visited, she was happy to see me and always had something to say that put a smile on my face. There was never a time that I would be around her that she wouldn’t make me laugh. I pray that God will provide peace and comfort to the family in the days ahead. I send my love and deepest sympathy during this time.
