Winnifred Belboda

Sunrise: June 27, 1956

Sunset: March 20, 2025

Winnifred “Winnie” Belboda, age 68, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20. She was born on June 27, 1956, in Colón, Republic of Panama, to the late Wilfred and Ennie Ricketts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Ennie Ricketts, and her siblings Ambrosio, Ernesto, Donna, Diana, and Virginia.

Winnifred is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jannett B. Smith (Donald Smith); grandchildren Alberto L. Smith, Brian A. Smith, Alyssa L. Lawrence, and Savannah G. Smith; great-grandson Alexander I. Smith; sisters Berenice Green, Dolores Wilson (Roberto), Shirley Hoyte-Smith (Albert), and Silvia Ricketts; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

After graduating from Rufo A. Garay High School, Winnifred pursued higher education at the University of Panama, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.

A nurturing and selfless soul, Winnifred devoted her time and heart to helping others. She volunteered extensively with the Healthy Families program, guiding mothers and their children in building strong parenting foundations. She also served as a court translator for English as a Second Language (ESL) families, later working at the Navy Child Development Center until her retirement in 2020.

Winnifred was more than a beloved mother and grandmother—she was a treasured sister, aunt, cousin, coworker, friend, and a maternal figure to many. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she adored, spoiled, and loved spending time with.

Though I mourn the loss of my beloved mother and best friend, we know many others grieve the passing of a truly remarkable woman.

Dear Sister in Christ Jannett, there are no words that can bring comfort to what you are experiencing in this moment, just know that our Good Lord is in Control. Psalms 23: 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. The Lord brings peace in the middle of the storm. Rest assured that you will meet again, in the meantime continue to pray for her soul. God Bless you. Warm hugs.
