Willie O. Wilkins, Sr.

Sunrise: April 14, 1925

Sunset: August 7, 2019

Willie Oscar Wilkins, Sr. went to eternal glory on August 7, 2019. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 14, 1925 to the late Mattie Wilkins Crawford and the late Archie Crawford. Being raised mostly by Christian aunts and uncles, he was brought up in church at an early age, and he knew the LORD. He served in the U. S. Army, doing two tours of duty, World War II and the Korean War. He always acknowledged how Psalms 23 got him through those wars.

On July 2, 1946 , he was joined in matrimony to Katherine Lewis and finally moved to Suffolk, VA. They were married for almost 64 years before God called her home. In the spring of 1973 he along with G.L. Parker and Leroy Coltrane helped start and manage the Pughsville Pythons baseball team. The goal was to provide the youth with some extra recreation in order to help keep them out of trouble.

He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a boilermaker in the early 1980’s and started working at Stanley Home Products with his lovely wife. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. His favorite football teams were the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded by his parents; twin brother, William Oscar Wilkins; wife, Katherine  Wilkins; sister, Maxine Wilkins; and daughter, Rita W. Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Willie O. Wilkins, Jr.(Elaine); grandchildren, Zacchaeus Wilson, Jr., Melva Wilson, and Deanna Wilkins; greatgrandchildren, Nyshala Simmons, Khaleel Copeland, Jaikari Simmons, and Taniyah Forbes; son-in-law, Zacchaeus Wilson, Sr, all of Suffolk, VA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
