Willie Mae Hawkins

Sunrise: October 16, 1938

Sunset: December 11, 2024

Willie Mae Townes Hawkins, affectionately known as Fee Fee, was born on October 16, 1938, in Norfolk, Virginia. She is the daughter of the deceased Richard and Annie Townes. On  Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Willie Mae was called home at the age of 86.

Willie Mae graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA. She retired from Norfolk Public Schools as a bus driver after numerous years of service. Willie Mae loved the Lord. She was a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church for 50 years, where she formerly served as an usher and leader of the children’s usher board. She was also a church mother at Greater Mount Zion. Willie Mae was an active member of Silver Strands (Senior  Citizens’ Club). Additionally, she was a dedicated member of Elizabeth-Fragrant Rose Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star of Virginia, PHA, for 40 years. Willie Mae served as the chapter’s secretary for over 25 years, earning the title of Honorary Past Worthy Patron. Her love for the Order and charity work strengthened the chapter.

Although Willie Mae barely stood five feet tall, she had a feisty personality. She definitely had no problem speaking her mind. If she loved you, we are sure you got laid out at some point. She loved sitting on her porch, planning bus trips to the casino and flea markets, making NFL pillows for family and friends, and celebrating her birthday with parties. During her 85th birthday party, she was thrilled with the fact that she had a live band performing who also serenaded her.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Annie Townes, her husband of 40+ years, Frederick Hawkins, Sr., her five sisters, Hattie Pearl Delk, Joyce Jarvis, Alberta Fields, Evelyn Dodson, and Annie Daughtery, her four brothers, Lemuel Townes, Samuel Townes, Thomas Townes, and Frank Townes, her grandson, Brian Hawkins, and son-in-law, Tony ‘Troy’ Wiggins, Sr.

Willie Mae leaves to cherish her memory five children, Frederick ‘Butch’ Hawkins, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, Kelda Hawkins (Steve) of Suffolk, VA, Veronica ‘Vickie’ Wiggins of Norfolk, VA, Eric Hawkins (Keisha) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Reginald ‘Reggie’ Hawkins (Carlenna) of Woodbridge, VA, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
