Willie Lee Lovely, Sr.

Sunrise: September 3, 1936

Sunset: November 5, 2022

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith.”

II Timothy 4:7

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, in the mid afternoon hours, God welcomed home our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Willie Lee Lovely, Sr.,  Willie was born on September 3, 1936, in North Carolina to the late Mary Elizabeth Lovely.

Willie was a proud retiree from the International Longshoreman Association, (Local 1248) with over thirty years of service.  He was joined in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Brown on May 5, 1956.  To this union was born 6 children, Willie, Jr., Darlene, Keith, Yvette, Gwenevere (Lynn) and Rena.

Willie was loved by all.  “Boot” as he was affectionally known was a very genuine man and friend.  He was an outstanding baseball player and long distance cyclist. Willie enjoyed family gatherings and fellowshipping with his retired longshoreman buddies at Hardees on Indian River Rd.  He never met a stranger, always willingly shared his wisdom, and offered encouraging and kind words.  We are thankful and grateful to God for letting us have him for 86 years.  He touched the lives of so many people in such a kind and loving manner.  To know him was to love him.

Willie leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 66 years Gwendolyn Brown Lovely, two sons, Willie Lovely, Jr., Keith Lovely, Sr. (Denise), four daughters, Darlene Lovely, Yvette Lee, Gwenevere (Lynn) Moore, Rena Lovely; one brother Larry Williams, eleven grandchildren (Brian, Corey, Keith, Jr., Alexandria, Brandon, Erin, Niya, Ariana, William, Maria and Zechariah); seven great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
