Willie Lee Heggins, Jr. was born on June 14, 1949, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Verda Mae and Willie Lee Heggins, Sr.
Raised in the Campostella section of Norfolk, he was educated in Norfolk Public Schools. In his early years, he joined Saint Thomas Church. He later served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 where he received an Honorable Discharge after being injured in Germany.
June Bug or Bug, as he is affectionately known, was an avid sports fan and the San Francisco 49ers was his favorite NFL team. However, when it came to college football, you knew Virginia Tech was his favorite team. If you saw him, you would always catch him sporting his Hokies jacket and hat no matter the temperature outside.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula, his son Lashawn “Pee-Wee”, and his brothers Michael and Joseph. He leaves to cherish his memories Shawn of Delaware; Jonathan (Hallelya) of Marlyand; Veronica “Dee-Dee” of South Carolina; Latoina “Tina”, and Danielle of Norfolk; his sister, Gloria “Elaine”; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
