On February 6, 2025, our beloved uncle, Willie L. (Buddy) Cuffee entered into eternal rest. Willie was born in Norfolk County on January 20, 1934, to the late Eddie and Mary Cuffee Barnes.
He was a 1952 graduate of Norfolk County High School, where he excelled in the sport of track and field. He competed in the 1951 Penn Relays and placed 3rd in the mile relay. Willie was a retiree of Marva Maid Dairy, Newport News, VA.
Deacon Cuffee was a lifelong, devoted member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church where he most notably, served as a Deacon for 66 years. In addition, he dedicated himself to numerous ministries: Benevolence, Wednesday Noon Senior Bible Study, Sunday School, Transportation, and Food Bank. Deacon Cuffee‘s Sunday morning prayer was a true testament of his relationship with the Father, so uplifting and soul-stirring like no other. It was as if he was alone with God and speaking for us all. It was well known that Buddy stuttered, but not when he was talking to God. We will always remember his signature start to every prayer, “God my Father, this is a good day. “
Willie was preceded in death by his sisters Eddie Mae Johnson, and Emily Seagraves, and brother Eddie Cuffee, Jr; nephews: Ralph Seagraves, Gilbert Johnson, Sr., Edward Cuffee, and Leon Goodman.
Buddy will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Pamela Miller, Laura Whitfield, Phyllis Wilson, Audrey Johnson, Hope Jones, Brenda Burrus, Selma Cuffee and James Johnson, Sr., Carter Johnson, Sr., Aubrey Johnson, George Seagraves, Jr., Sherwood Seagraves, Sr., Rayminton Cuffee, Sr., Eddie Cuffee, III and a host of other relatives, friends and his beloved MGBC family.
