William Michael Sills

William Sills, 73, of Portsmouth, VA passed away on February 10, 2024 in Norfolk, VA.

William was born in New York to Willie Belle Sills on August 27, 1950.  He attended Portsmouth Public schools and was a 1968 graduate of I.C. Norcom High School.  He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Norfolk State University.  He was a veteran of Desert Storm and honorably served in the U. S. Navy for 22 years before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer.  His second career was as a Corrections Officer for Hampton Roads Regional Jail.  He was a loyal and active member in the Lebanon #34 Lodge and the American Legion Post 190 of Portsmouth, VA.

William was an avid card player and mastered most card games. He enjoyed fishing, cruising and spending time with the fellas.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Willie Belle Sills; and his wife, Marilyn Sills.

William is survived by his daughters, Letitia Robinson and Michelle Sills; stepdaughters, Stacey Linnette (Larry) and Kelli Ashley; siblings, Sandra Williams, Dennis Chavious, and Ronald Chavious; grandchildren, Ciara Fabian (Lennon), Giavonna and Giuliana Sills; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren from his marriage with Marilyn.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Patricia Corum, Carroll “Tony” and Carol Jones, Ronchester “Bobby” and Yvonne Ellis and Valerie Goodman for their dedication and friendship.

    My Condolences to the family, I served with Bill on USS Shenandoah AD-26 from 1976-1980, He was my R-5 Div LPO (FTG1).. He was a great leader, I was so sorry to read of his passing. Later I Ran into him when he was at MOTU-2 & I was a tech rep at Navseacenlant..he will be missed..

      We are pray for the family. Bill and his late wife were good neighbors to my late parents. We live in ATL and spent a few weeks visiting during his stay. We will truly miss our friend.
