William McKinley Cox, III, entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. William was born on February 8, 1979 to William McKinley Cox, Jr. and Sheila Nydia Ross Cox. He grew up in the Lambert’s Point section of Norfolk and later moved to Oliver Avenue in South Norfolk. William was a 1997 graduate of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA. He was a Longshoreman with I.L.A. Local 1970 for 13 years. He often referred to his coworkers as his brothers and sisters.
William was affectionately called “Lil’ Man” by his family and Will by his friends and classmates. He was known by all to be an extremely giving person. If he had it, you could get it. He was a very supportive friend and a wonderful role model as a big brother to both Latron and Nekeecia. Will was the peacemaker in the family; he loved gatherings, especially the ones where there was lots of food. He was deeply loved by everyone. You cannot find anyone who had an unkind word to say about him.
Will was predeceased by his beautiful mother, Sheila N. Ross Cox. He leaves to cherish his memory his father, William McKinley Cox, Jr. (Juanita), his brother and best friend Latron Cox (Monnica), his sister Nekeecia Cox Woodson (Kenny), niece Keniyah Woodson, aunts Mollie Cox Baynes (Benjamin), Joyce Johnson, Mary Cox Wiggins (McNeal), Geraldine Cochran and Katrina Ross Pitsielis (Panayiotis), uncles Jerome Cox and David Cox, and an abundance of cousins and friends who loved him immensely. Will’s wonderful smile and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. We all love you Lil’ Man but we accept that God loves you the most.

May 16, 2018 at 4:35 pmWilliam, you certainly will be missed by me.
We’ve never had a cross word, you’ve come by and eaten at our table and you always checked in on your Dad and me. “You didn’t come out of my womb; but you leaped into my heart” And, that’s where you will always stay. Still love you…

May 18, 2018 at 11:09 amMy deepest condolences to your family! Every time I saw you, you always had a smile on your face. We didn’t work side by side but we were ILA brothers and will always be. I’ll remember the last time I saw you a few weeks before your passing at the Twisted Pig where we ate lunch with 6 other ILA brothers that day! The Lord has called upon you to serve him now, until we meet again! R.I.P brother. ?
