William Joseph Stevenson III, who was affectionately called “Bubba”, was called home peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025. William was born on May 31, 1969, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Adell and William Joseph Stevenson II. William was the first grandson and the 6th of 68 grandchildren born into the Bethea family.
William was a graduate of Indian River High School and a decorated veteran of the Gulf War. William was a licensed electrician who began his career with Dorey Electric. He went on to work for other electrical companies such as Dagan Electric (where he worked alongside his little brother Quentin), IES Electrical, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard. With over 25 years of experience in the electrical field, William was a master of his trade. William was respected for his dedication, hard work, diligence, integrity, and humor, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
On April 18, 2009, William married the love of his life, Arlethia Monet Stevenson. Together, they shared 7 years of a beautiful union before Arlethia’s passing in June 2016. William is also predeceased by his father, William J. Stevenson II; his brother, Quentin A. Stevenson Sr. (Cindy); his nephew, Quentin A. Stevenson Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Esau and Hattie Bethea; and his paternal grandmother, Eva Todd Trusty, and step-grandfather, Elder Donald Trusty.
William is survived by his children: Vivica, Vondell, and Jordan Stevenson; Valdes and Valene Owens; and Carlos and Alfonzo Wilson; his mother Adell Stevenson and his sister Bernadette Williams (Les), his grandchildren, a special friend Katherine “Penny” Edwards, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Bubba was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished son, brother, and dear friend to many. He enjoyed spending time with family, hanging out with friends, taking trips, trying new restaurants, and affectionately teasing his children. He was a loyal 49ers fan, and he enjoyed hosting gatherings for friends and family. Bubba was a joy to have known, and he will be tremendously missed by those near and dear to him.
