William Howard Thornton, Jr.

Sunrise: February 16, 1942

Sunset: August 19, 2024

On Monday, August 19, 2024, our Lord and Savior quietly called to eternal rest our beloved Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, and Companion (Foxy), William Howard Thornton Jr. He was born on February 16, 1942, to William Howard, Sr. and Berlyn Matilda Foote Thornton in Warren County, North Carolina. He was educated in North Carolina.

He was employed at A.W. Temple Trucking Incorporated in Chesapeake, VA. He later owned and operated his own trucking company, Thornton Trucking Freightliner in Moyock, NC. He was in the trucking business for over 40 years.

He was a member of Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church in Moyock, NC.

Bud as he was called by family and Mr. Bill by friends, always had a smile and a story to tell. He loved being on his computer and watching the news and western movies. His favorite words were “Nope” and “Yep” followed by a smile. He enjoyed his family and having our annual cookouts in North Carolina and at the Triple R Ranch. The joy of his life was his fury companion “Foxy”. When he visited Virginia, you would see him and Foxy tagging along together.

He leaves to cherish his memories his sister Mary Louise Miller, special niece Ronita Thornton, nieces: Darlene Williams (John), Wanda Miranda, and Latashia Hurst, nephews: Ralph and Edward Miller, Jr. (Mary) and Shelton Thornton, fury companion Foxy, special caregiver Samantha, friend (Al), ex-wife Anne Thornton (4 stepchildren) and a host of family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents: William Howard Thornton Sr. and Berlyn Thornton, wife Carol Thornton, brother, Joseph Thornton and sisters: Patsy Thornton and Shirley Spruill and nephews: William Miller and Michael Thornton.
