William Hooker “Bill”, the oldest of 13 siblings, was born July 4, 1925 in Maxton, North Carolina to Jack Malloy and Almener Patterson, but raised by his grandmother Ms. Lily Mae Hooker. On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, he departed for his divine home from Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk VA.
He later went into the United States Navy and served in WWII. When he returned, he married the love of his life Daisy Mae Patterson and they proceeded to move to Norfolk, Virginia. He was gainfully employed at Norfolk and Western Railway, but later became a truck driver for EV Williams Trucking, where he later retired from. He was well known around the city of Norfolk and always willing to help someone out, whether it was helping someone move from house to house, hauling items for a friend or even working on their vehicle for them. He also did electrician work on the side. He could fix just about anything you gave him. William just loved to play practical jokes on everyone even his grandchildren, which was the funniest thing in life to him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Daisy, his mother and father, siblings: Howard, Rufus, Elizabeth, Brown, Johnny, JD, William Jay, EmmaLee, LillieMae, Coot and James Willie.
He leaves to cherish his memory with his four children Yvonne (James), Steve (Delrisa), Cheryle and Lillie (Barry).
9 grandchildren
Maurice, Kenneth “Love-Joy”, Chaun (Bianca), LaTashia (Aron), Joe “Buddy”, Danae (Tristan), Jackie (Alphonso), Jasmine and Steve Jr. Nine great grandchildren, a brother Joe Patterson and a brother-in-law that was like a brother to him, Theodore McKenzie. A host of nieces, nephews and other family members who loved him dearly.
HE LOVED ALL OF US AND HE LOVED GOD. We all loved him, but God loved him more.
Rest well daddy until we see you again! Watch over us!

It could be a weekend, few days or the entire summer they were in Maxton. It didn’t have to be any particular time of the night, we knew when the truck pulled up and heard JIMBO barking it was you. You made sure that you visited the family in Maxton, Evergreen or Chadbourn. The beach for sure was a place we end up going each year. For ever in our hearts.

Right now, it is so surreal to me and therefore it seems as though I’m grieving someone else. God granted you long life and extensive opportunities to bear fruit on much soil. You made a name for yourself and you left a legacy for those who shared your mutual love. You were exciting, you were fun, but by the same token, nobody to play with. You did so much for many people, and never asked for a lot in return if ever. I witnessed the elevation in your life, as you allowed God to send His Son into your heart. From then on, He was that permanent fixture that you always recognized and told me to recognize. You showed me your prayer corner, nothing visibly appealing, but an old ,worn, bible that you read often, such as daily, and tried your best to understand. No, it understood you better than you understood it. For it spoke in volume that one magnificent word, GRACE ! Dad I’m gonna miss your voice, miss your wisdom, and miss your humor, but I won’t miss you forever, because I know that you’ll stand on the porch until I come HOME !

For those you that might not know, I lived with uncle William and aunt Daisy from 1955 until 1957. They both were my “rock” and I will truly never forget that. I can remember you and aunt Daisy coming home from Norfolk and you always had a fine automobile,ie, the 55 green and white Pontiac , the 56 blue and white Cadillac, the 56, dynaflow Buick , the 58 yellow and white Chevrolet , the 1960 Oldsmobile..I could go on. But nevertheless you stayed course, you fought a good fight and you have gained your wings….fly own aunt Daisy is waiting ….
