William E. Jones, Sr.

On March 4, 2023, God whispered to our beloved husband and father, William Ernest Jones, Sr., that you have finished your course. You have fought a good fight, now take your eternal rest. 

“Bo” (as he was known by) was born on October 10, 1944, to the late Sidney H. Jones, Jr and Lillian B. Jones. He was raised in Suffolk, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers, Sidney Jones III, Leon Jones, Jackie Jones and LaCurtis V. Jones.

William attended Booker T. Washington High School in Suffolk Virginia.  Bo was employed at Suffolk STOP Organization as a CPR instructor and Birdsong Peanuts Company.   He later retired from Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock in X36 Department for over 22 years of service. 

In 1962 he married his wife of 60 yrs., Belvie Miller Jones. After their union, Bo and Belvie lived in Brooklyn, New York. Later, they decided to move closer to Bo’s home, Suffolk, VA. He joined St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Percy Shannon. He was a member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir and Male Chorus under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Jones.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Belvie; his daughter, Rev. Sharon Jones; sons, William E. Jones., Jr, Minister Quincy G. Jones (Mary); granddaughter, Tamari Jones; sister, Brenda Diggs; two aunts, Doretha Holland, Janice Parker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

    To Belv And All Our Family,
    As followers of Christ we know that as we enter into this life we are preparing to leave it.
    Although Cousin William Ernest is no longer with us our memories and Love for him will stay in our hearts. That’s why we’ll find our Lord wants nothing more than to offer us comfort and peace throughout this difficult time. Though we’re in Connecticut and couldn’t be there with you today, please know that our spirits, heart’s, prayers and love is right there beside you.
