A Journey Begins…

“Sometimes it’s hard to understand why some things must be, but in His wisdom, God has planned beyond our power to see. May the work I’ve done speak for me.”

On Friday, June 9, 2023, an angel came from Heaven and said, “You belong to me; it’s time to come home.” He reached out his arms and said, “Lord here I am, I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished the course, and I am now ready for my crown.”

William Cornelius Bell, Jr. (aka “Doc”) was born on February 10, 1956, to the late William Cornelius Bell, Sr. and Delores Costella Cole. He was educated in the Portsmouth School System and is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Immediately following, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as a student-athlete majoring in Art and a member of the Men’s Varsity Basketball Team. Shortly after college, Doc relocated to Washington, D.C. before returning to Portsmouth, VA. Years later he returned to his college city, Richmond, VA, and worked for over 20 years as a Senior Civil Drafter for Chesterfield County Virginia. He retired in July 2022.

At an early age, he professed Christ and was baptized at Lees Chapel A.M.E. Church in Chesapeake, VA. He was very smart, extremely talented, a “jack of all trades” hence the nickname “Doc” and a master in the arts and music. Doc was a people person and excellent conversationalist, who enjoyed his own company above all else. Also, like his mom, Doc loved to cook.

Preceding his death were his two sisters, the late Deborah Bell and Remona Bell Pressey. He leaves to cherish his memory three brothers Andre’ Cole of Portsmouth, VA, Harry Cole, Jr. (Tosha) of Statesboro, GA, and Kevin Cole, Sr. (Michelle) of Winston-Salem, NC; four nephews, Shawn Bell, Andre’ Russell, Kevin Cole, II and Kaleb Cole; one niece, Lauren Cole and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Journey Ends…

Bishop Terence Washington & Elect Lady Shelita Washington says

It is with a heavy heart that I send to the family of William Cornelius Bell my condolences. Although I did not get a chance to meet William, from reading his obituary, we have two things in common, art and cooking. My duty is to give words of comfort during the memorial service, yet I want the family to know that you are in our prayers.
