Warren Dell Sykes

Warren Dell Sykes, lovingly known to others  as  “Peterman,” “Dah-Dah,” or Deacon Sykes; departed this life while in his  home, Sunday June 30, 2019. Warren was born  January 24, 1933 to the late Gilvester and Rachel Sykes, in  Greenville, VA (now Emporia, VA). He was educated in Southampton County, VA. He worked at Newport News, VA  Shipyard, until he retired after 35 years. He was known around the yard as  “The little man with the big voice.”

Warren was preceded in death by his wife Geneva S. Sykes; two daughters Frances L. Reid and Juanita S. Ricks; brother  Bishop Joe Green Sykes; sisters  Meredith Harrison, Elizabeth Baum, and Ola Harrison; and his Step-Siblings.

Deacon was a lover  of the outdoors with a natural green thumb, who loved yard work and working on cars in his spare time. He also enjoyed helping others with such tasks, whenever he could.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his son Pendleton L. Sykes (Rosalyn) – Chesapeake, VA; daughter Wanda G. Outlaw (Arthles) – Chesapeake, VA; adopted daughter Rachel Washington (Frank) one sister Bernice S. Collins  (Zack) – Norfolk, VA ; brother Marion Lewis (Ame) – Chesapeake, VA.

He also leaves behind  seven grandchildren,: Warren D. Sykes (Tanya), Ryan T. Reid (Chauntee), Carleta E. Cuffee, Bartae R. Ricks (Anitra), Jaren Reid (Heather), and Breayania Outlaw; and  eleven great grandchildren.
