Walter T. Alexander, Sr.

Walter Thomas Alexander was born on June 2,1929 to Elihu Cursie Alexander and Ruth Missouri Armstrong- lexander in Beaufort, North Carolina. He was raised in Hertford County, North Carolina where he attended Bethel Baptist Church and school in Hertford County, North Carolina. At the age of fourteen he came to live in the Berkley section of Norfolk, VA. Walter was a truck driver for over forty years.

He started at Amos and Brown and retired from E.V. Williams where he worked for forty years. He was also a delivery boy for a supermarket back in the day, in Berkley. He used to talk a lot about the various jobs he had as a young man. He was a member of Hood Chapel AME Zion Church, Berkley section of Norfolk, VA. He loved talking about how he sang in the choir and was called into ministry, He really loved his gospel music. In October of 1955, he married Mildred
A. Gordon-Alexander in Norfolk, VA.

To the union of Walter and Mildred was born Chriscelia D. Alexander-Brown, Sharon G. Alexander-Trotman Fields, Walter D. Alexander and Theresa R. Alexander. He leaves to mourn, his daughter, Vicky James-Hobbs; sons, Joseph James, Walter D. Alexander, Keith and Walter(Pick A Lo Pete); two sisters-in-law, Rev. Undine Gordon-McCoy and Shirley M. Gordon-Lyons; aunts-in-law, Alfreda Griffin-Riddick and Linda Griffin; uncles, Robert Williams, John, Williams and James Williams, and a host of other children who looked to him as a father.

Special thanks to granddaughters, Sharina, Chintada, DeVonna and Lennet; grandsons, Durrand, Charles and Jason; friends of the family, Val and Debra; others whom he was like a grandfather to, Diane, Carolyn, Lisa and Lady. He also loved Larry, Roosevelt and James. He is also survived by a host of grand, great grands and great great grandkids, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
