In the early morning Saturday, July 3, 2021, our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Walter Lee Scruggs went home to eternal rest. He was born June 26, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma he was predeceased in death by his parents, JC Scruggs and Eddie V. Scruggs and sister Janice Scruggs.

Walter Lee Scruggs graduated from high school and attended Kansas City State college. He served in Vietnam as an army soldier and retired from the Navy in 1994. His ships of service included the destroyer, USS Horne and aircraft carrier, USS JFK. Upon his retirement he was employed by VDOT from 2008 until about 2017 when his health no longer permitted him to work. Walter loved life, family, love to talk, and love to talk politics and current events, he loved African-American progress and love to laugh and have a good time. Family, good food, friends and fun were essential in his life. Friends and family can best honor the memory of Walter by continuing his legacy of building long lasting friendships, having a good time, living life to the fullest and most importantly supporting the progress of African-American families, communities and heritage.

His survivors include his wife Glennis Scruggs, brother Bill Scruggs and Dan Scruggs, children Michelle Duplessis, Felicia Williams,Tony Person, Shron Gilbert and Tresia Gilbert, grandchildren Malik Duplessis ,Carl Robert Woods, Natiya, Ahmarri and Zinnia Williams, Ashley Hill and nephews Tony Scruggs and Delton Scruggs and myriad of extended family. He will best be remembered for his assertive firm voice and being outspoken and opinionated! He spoke his mind and was never one to back out of a good debate or bite his tongue.

Although he travelled the world with the Navy, he had an affinity for San Diego and the Midwest; yet, he found love, home, and family and his final resting place in Virginia. Rest easy Walter, Pops, Paw-Paw, WL, Lee and better known as “HONEY”to his beloved wife Glennis Scruggs.

You will be missed, PEACE.
