Walter Clarence Pruden, Sr. passed away Friday, July 19, 2024; he was born July 4, 1931 to Mr. Bennie and Christine Walker Pruden in Portsmouth, VA.
All of his life, Walter was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Bethel United Church in Christ in Portsmouth, VA. His God given talent was a “singing voice,’ which he used to the glory of God on any occasion, lifting up the name of Jesus. Walter was a resident of Bell’s Residential Home for 20 years under the care of the Grant family members. Walter worked several jobs according to his physical ability until his retirement as a self-supporting individual. His favorite foods were spaghetti and the crab-cakes especially from Roger Brown’s that was his favorite place, but his favorite home cooked meals were done by Aunt Thelma. He was a very friendly, pleasant, gentle soul in the Brighton section neighborhood of Portsmouth. Walter was respected by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is his only brother, Rudolph B. Pruden (Fernande); his nephew, Vincent Pruden; his niece, Christine M. Pruden (Stéphane Bédére); first cousin, Clarice Walker Scott (Paul); a host of cousins, other family members of Zion Bethel and those who knew him from the neighborhood. A special thanks to Mr. Marvin Grant, Ms. Barbara Grant and Mrs. Linda Goodman for their kind compassion shown to Walter during his stay at Bell’s Residential Home.
