Our cherished Voncile Faison passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2022 at home surrounded in love. Born in Pineapple, Alabama, a graduate of Maury High School and a long time resident of Lamberts Point. Von, also affectionately known as “Cakes” was a doting mother, grandmother, loving sister and caring friend to all those who were blessed enough to know her.
Von loved being surrounded by family and friends. Family was truly her driving force and was the basis of how she lived and who she lived for. Family was truly cherished by Von and she expressed that love and brought the family together with every recipe she created. She never met a stranger (although she might side eye them), She was an avid traveler, loved music and a constant jokester. Her kindness, infectious laugh, outspoken nature, love for the Lord and outrageous sense of humor was unmatched.
Professionally she dedicated her life’s work to the service of others, she served as a nurse for many years and a caretaker to others, including the family. Despite this debilitating genetic condition Von thrived and excelled in this life. She met every challenge and against all odds was triumphant over every obstacle in life and health. In 2008, she was blessed with and received a full heart transplant and an immediate new vigor for life. She quickly turned her own blessing into a blessing for others by becoming an advocate and motivational speaker for other heart transplant recipients. She spoke at various events and functions bringing awareness and hope to others by sharing the family and her own health battles. Her story, her candor and her sheer determination to fight and be victorious was all inspiring testimony. Sharing such testimony was only one of her missions in this life.
Her first mission was her love for the Lord. To know Von is to know and understand she had no problem with vocally sharing that love and the good word. She had a genuine excitement to teach, tell and exemplify the glory of God. Von was a faithful believer and diligent servant that wore the strength of the Lord as her armor with his grace ever present until the very end. Weep not for the ending of our beloved Von’s life because she would not want you to. Instead celebrate a life that fulfills the essence of a fighting spirit, a purpose served and a legacy of love.
Rest well thy good and faithful servant.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hershell Paul Dunn Sr. and Erma Jean Westry Dunn, two brothers, Steven Dunn and Hersehell Paul Dunn Jr. and two sisters, Mary Magdalene Clark and Paula Heggins.
She leaves many to cherish her precious memory including three daughters, Tamika Mangual (Mark), Charlene Speight and Miranda Middlebrooks (Jerome); one sister Adonnica McCain, stepmother, Karen Dunn (Phillip), sister in-love Rev. Dr. Yvonne Wright Dunn and a brother in-love Willie Heggins, three grandchildren Julian Mangual, Anaiah and Justice Speight. Also a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Von will truly be missed by all and will remain forever in our hearts.

May 5, 2022 at 9:35 pmMy heart aches for you and your family. It is never easy to find the words to express our feelings when there are no words that can fully capture the depth of what we’re feeling. I pray that you’re all comforted in knowing she was loved and will forever be in your hearts. Love to you all! Jennifer (Jae) Crippen

May 11, 2022 at 12:09 pmI had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Von 14 years ago at Sentara heart hospt.. Von had received her heart transplant 2 weeks before I did. It’s true she never met a stranger and Our Father connected us from our first hello. Von shared all the ways one heals with time and survives the
” mystery meat” we would be served as patients on HICU. Von will be remembered for GOD AND FAMILY. I so loved her fiesty spirit keeping our Transplant Team on their toes as she shared only God knew her exit date and the Dr. was only there to assist God in our earthly journey. FAITHFUL WARRIOR IS HOME.
See you soon dear friend.

May 14, 2022 at 9:12 amVoncile has been a dear family friend, as long as I can remember, at least 50 years! So that makes her family. She was always funny, caring, serious at times, and full of life. I know my sister, Sheryl, will miss her dearly and cherish her memories, as we all will. She will be missed. Sending comfort and strength to her daughters and family for the coming days.
