Viola (Ola) Mayfield-Roane was born on June 5, 1923, in Nutbush, North Carolina, to the union of the late Lawyer Mayfield and Estelle Champ-Mayfield. Ola was the sixth child out of twelve children, and at the tender age of five years old, the family relocated to Suffolk, Virginia. After relocating to Brooklyn, New York, Ola became an entrepreneur as the owner of a Daycare Center for over thirty years. She was a faithful member of the Brooklyn Church of Christ, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior. She was a dedicated member, attending church regularly until her health no longer allowed her to attend. Ola was preceded in death by her parents, Lawyer and Estell Champ-Mayfield, husband, Russell Roane Sr., her beloved Charlie Hill, son Thomas Roane, daughter Olivia Roane, Brenda Roane, grandson David Hopson, siblings Matthew Mayfield, Moses Mayfield, Arthur Lewis Mayfield, Albert Lee Mayfield, James Mayfield, Lillie Bell Henderson, Virginia Johnson, Mabel Britt, Odell Robinson, and two siblings who passed at an early age. Ola leaves to mourn her children, daughter Lillian Hopson (Melvin), son Russell Roane, Jr., grandchildren Ernell Simpson (Tara), Tonya Simpson, Terry Roane, Alicia Estell Roane, Keith Goddard, Danielle Hopson-Daniels (Roderic), Janell Smith (Christopher), twenty great-grandchildren, twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Josephine Mayfield-Morley, Godson and Goddaughter Jack and Peggy Barnhill, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
