Veronica Denise affectionately called “Nicey”, was born on June 29, 1960 in Jackson, North Carolina and took her wings on March 30, 2021 at her home in Portsmouth, VA. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1978 and later graduated with honors as a nurse in 1980.

Nicey leaves to mourn her four daughters Aleathea Cumbo (Tony Gordon) of Washington, DC, Midrel Williamson Ward (Geoffrey Ward) of Norfolk, VA, Barbara Williamson Garris (James Garris), Joque Everett (Arthur Johnson) of Portsmouth, VA and her loving husband Hugh R Williamson Jr.  Also left to mourn are four granddaughters Amaris Rice and Justice Headspeth, twins A’ria and Lyric Ward and two grandsons Jahmeze Williams and Kameron Rashad Garris.  Left to mourn also are her siblings three brothers Daniel Darnell, Tony McCoy of Portsmouth, Virginia and Charles Cumbo of Hampton, VA, four sisters Sylvia Cumbo Bishop (New York), Carolyn Cumbo Mitchell (North Carolina), Barbara Cumbo Jackson and Flora Aleathea Cumbo of (Portsmouth, VA) and one great grandson Jahmeze Williams Jr.

Nicey was preceded in death by her loving parents William Sam and Florida Mason Cumbo (Chesapeake. VA), and her big brothers Sammy Cumbo (Portsmouth, VA) and Mason Jerry Cumbo (Poughkeepsie NY).

She leaves to mourn also a host of nieces, nephews, friends, co-workers from Ahoskie, NC, St Mary’s Home in Norfolk, Roanoke Chowan in Ahoskie, NC and her medical support team from Lee’s Friends and her family who took her journey with her.

Nicey loved her girls/family and would often be the peace maker when issues arose.  She was humorous and fun loving and never hesitated to speak her mind.  She kept you laughing.  She loved everyone she met and took pride in joking and smiling with her many nieces, nephews, cousins, her host of friends and relatives. She touched everyone she met and took great pride in cooking for her family/friends, providing jokes/medical advice and wisdom to all who needed it. She gave her all to anyone who needed her and never said NO.  Nicey will always be remembered for accepting everyone no matter what their issues, race, financial status or problems.

Everyone will remember some cute jokes or phrases she used and her favorite oldies but goodies and Motown classics. Her legacy lives on in our hearts. Nicey possessed a humorous powerful presence, she was the peacemaker in family situations even if she started them and was passionate in her love for others.  We are honored that God has blessed us with such a loving compassionate person who never gave up in her biggest fight of her life. We love you Denise and We Carry Your Example of Unconditional love and strength with Us always.  Know you are loved, Rest in peace.

My prayers go out to the family in their lost. May God bless each and everyone. She was a beautiful friend, inside and out. We both attended high school and graduated together. We had so many fun times and shared memories. We also sang together in chorus. She had a beautiful voice and that’s one of the beautiful things I will remember about her. She will be missed. Rest in peace, Denise.

I wish the family Favor, Grace, and Strength to meet this challenging season. The place Denise held in the family, physically and in the hearts of many, can never be replaced; I pray the fun memories, the laughter, and Love will meet the need when Denise’s presence is warranted.
Denise was one of my most favorable and beautiful cousins. She was a joy to be around especially for the humor she bought to the occasion; her physical beauty held its own equally.
Denise no longer has to be concerned with the challenges of Covid-19 or the world tarnished by it.
Take your place, Denise; rest at the Throne of Grace while we navigate the challenges on our Journeys here. “You got it good girl.”
Rest in eternal peace, Cousin; Denise.
    Remaining Cousins and Family.
    I love you all.
I Pray; Safety, Good Health, Love, Peace, and the Grace of God be with you always, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
    Jerry Rogers, and Family.
