Vernice Woods

Vernice Woods, affectionately known as “Ploose” was born to the late Lavinia and Alex Harris on June 11, 1928. 

On August 29, 2024, she was called home to be with the Lord. Vernice was born and raised in Barraud Park, Norfolk VA. She attended Norfolk Public Schools and was a private-duty nurse for many years. She was a loving, caring, and devoted Mother, Grandmother, sister, aunt, Big Momma, and friend. Vernice attended Come to the Light Ministry Church. Her spirit was always uplifting, and she always had something to say to make you smile and laugh.

She was predeceased in death by her two brothers Lindsey & Alexander Harris; two sisters Lavinia & Virginia Lee Harris; one son Raymond Winder; two grandsons Kentrell Woods & Brandon Winder; and one great-granddaughter TyAsia Lundy.

Vernice leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, her five daughters Joyce & Mattie Harris, Denice, Lavern, and Theresa Woods and Son Vanoy Harris (Cornelia); One Sister-in-law Beverly Jones; One brother-in-law Otis Woods (Tina). 14 Grandchildren LaZania Gittens (Louie), Felicia Harris, Anthony Harris, Jermaine Winder, Darnell Harris, DeRon Woods, DeShawn Harris (Marvell), Crystal Winder, Kemeyon Woods, Tamara Woods, DeAndrae Woods (Barbara), Tramaine Woods. 30 Great Grandchildren; 11 Great Great Grandchildren. Also blessed to cherish her love and memories are her nephews, nieces, and friends.
