Vera Ann Carter

Sunrise: August 14, 1945

Sunset: December 14, 2019

Vera Ann ‘Annie’ Carter, 74 of 1445 Longdale Drive, Norfolk, VA, accepted her Master’s call on December 14, 2019. She was born on August 14, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Ida Mae Ringold. At a young age, she married Dan A. Hubbard, Sr. (deceased). They were blessed with three children from this union. While working at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, Preventative Maintenance (retired), she met her second husband, Wayne A. Carter. Even after the dissolution of their marriage, Wayne, who later cared for Vera during her two bouts with breast cancer and lung disease, maintained deep and loving friendship with our family. Thank you Wayne!

Vera’s faith and love of GOD remained strong even during her darkest time. She maintained her service to God through her good works within her church and with those she encountered. At Queen Street Baptist Church, she was a long time member of the Usher Board where she held office of treasurer and occasionally assisted the Helping Hands Committee.

However, her most prized role was being a mother. Vera loved her family completely and unconditionally. Forever inspiring, encouraging, and advising her loved ones to be their best, to have faith in GOD, and to enjoy life.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Akujuobi (Leo), Suffolk; son, Sgt. 1st Class (retired) Dan A. Hubbard, Jr. (Ann), Suffolk; granddaughters, Chiamaka Akujuobi and Kennady Hubbard; grandson, Kelechi Akujuobi; Niece, Audrey Newby, Georgia; three great nieces, and a host of family members and friends.

Mrs. Ann, you will be highly missed. Timothy 2:4 tells us, you have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, you have kept the faith. May the family lean on the Lord for comfort during this time. I send my condolences from The Brown Family. You know your adoptive Son Jamey is going to miss those conversations you used to have. Love you dearly Ms. Ann. Love you Dan!
