Vanessa Elaine Mack, affectionately called “Bunnie”, 68, was called Home to the Lord on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. She was born July 24, 1952 in Portsmouth, VA to the late George N. and Mildred F. Mack.
Vanessa attended Portsmouth schools and graduated as a proud Greyhound from I.C. Norcom High School’s class of 1971. She attended Norfolk State University and Tidewater Community College earning an Associate degree. Vanessa worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. before returning to Virginia where she had a long and rewarding career at The Portsmouth Department of Social Services as a Fiscal Support Specialist. She retired after 29 years of
dedicated service.
Vanessa was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and friend to all. She loved going to football and basketball games, scrapbooking, watching Westerns on television, planning events and researching family history. She also enjoyed cookouts and would make her famous baked beans. Vanessa loved her longtime home of Charlestowne and served on its Board of Directors for over 10 years. Vanessa was a longstanding member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville.
She was predeceased by her daughter Kimberly Mack, her sister Valerie Mack, nephew David Mack and brother-in-law Albert Sanders.
She leaves to cherish her memories her grandson Kameron Mack and great-grandson Kamen Mack; siblings Noreen (Larry) Stephenson, George (Diana) Mack, Mildred Sanders, William and Emma Mack; nephews, Erik (O’Keena) Stephenson, Kenneth Mitchell; nieces, Tracie Mack, Erika (Nicholas) Thompson, Tiffany Mack, Candace Mack; great-nephews, D’Ronte Roberts, Jalen Mack, Christopher Thompson, Alex Mack, Aiden Stephenson, Ashton Stephenson and Jasiah Mitchell; great-nieces, Rhyan Mack Blount and Dilyn Mack; her aunt Phyllis (Roger) Waters and a host of other relatives and friends

I only saw her periodically after that, but she always remembered who I was and always gave me a warm greeting! I am sure she will be missed. RIP, my Friend.
