Vance Jones Sr. was born in Merritt North Carolina on April, 19th 1932 to the late Leander and Carrie Suggs Jones. After several months of illness, Vance departed this Earthly Life at his home in Chesapeake VA and returned to his Heavenly Father on February 12th, 2024. Three children Lorenzo Landers, Vance Jones Jr., and Barbara D. Jones, preceded him in Death.
Vance attended public school in New Bern, NC and left school at the age of 18 years and entered the United States Army on 12/05/1951. Upon being honorably discharged from military service, Vance retuned to New Bern, NC where he became gainfully employed for more than fifteen years as a Sanitation Worker for the City of New Bern. Vance then resigned from that position and relocated to Norfolk VA, where he obtained employment with the Public Works Center at Norfolk Naval Base. He excelled to the position of Maintenance Supervisor and successfully retired from that position in 1997. Vance went on to work at Revelations Chesapeake Christian Center for ten years as a part time Maintenance Worker. Vance then worked as a school crossing guard in the City of Norfolk for five more years before finally truly retiring. He was always dutiful and never complained of being tired.
Vance was a member of and attended Revelations Chesapeake Christian Center for several years, as well as working there. All that really knew him knew that Vance was a “PRAYING” man of God. Vance loved the Lord and always was eager to spread God’s word, especially when he blessed the meals during dinner time and family gatherings. He loved to read the Bible precisely at 4am each morning and 8pm in the evenings. Once he could no longer attend church, Vance became a long time member of a Christian Television program where he continued to read, worship and study the Bible.
Those who remain to enjoy precious memories of Vance are his beloved wife, Shirley Watts Jones of Chesapeake VA, three children, Marinda Bynum of Norfolk VA, Ricky L. Jones of Detroit MI, and Eleanor M. Jones of New Bern NC; three step-sons, Darryl Watts of Portsmouth VA, Shawn Mosley of Portsmouth VA, and Kevin Mosley (Janine) of Norfolk VA. One daughter In-Law, Linda K Jones of New Bern NC; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many, many friends and acquaintances.
