Valerie P. Sessoms was born to the late Shirley Mae Ervin and Hubbard Lee Ervin, Sr., on August 23, 1959, in Portsmouth, VA. When her Savior felt her duties here on earth were completed, Valerie departed her earthly home on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA.
Valerie was married to Earl Sessoms, Jr., and from this union, they had three children. Valerie received her education within the Portsmouth Public School System. She furthered her education at Kee Business College for Nursing. After that, she was employed with Virginia Pilot, where she would retire in early 2000.
Valerie’s life was centered around her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, whom she loved dearly. Valerie was the epitome of love, life, and it was an absolute joy to be in her presence. She was a sincerely thoughtful and giving person who gave her time, energy, and resources to many. Being around Valerie, there was never a dull moment; she was the life of the party and could always put a smile on anyone’s face.
Valerie is predeceased by her sister, Victoria Hooper.
Valerie leaves not to mourn, but to rejoice in her memory her sons, Brian Sessoms (Tiffany), Ryan Sessoms, and Earl Sessoms; her grandchildren, Jabari Sessoms, Emari Sessoms, Erica Sessoms, Jakori McQuillia; great-granddaughter, Reign Dudley; four brothers, Bruce Ervin (Jane), Hubbard Ervin (Vickie), Reggie Ervin, and Antonio Ervin (Michelle); one sister, Sharon Ervin; a host of nieces, nephews and special friend, Rickey Harrell.
