On Sunday, April 29, 2018, while surrounded by family and loved ones, our wife, mother grandmother, sister and loved one Valerie “Val” Lavern Haynes Melvin transitioned this life to eternal life.
Val, as as she was affectionately called was born on July 27, 1961 to the late Hamilton, Sr. and Rosalyn Haynes of Virginia Beach. She was a 1979 graduate of Frank W. Cox High School, Virginia Beach, Virginia. She furthered her education by attending Norfolk State (2 years), ECPI, Tidewater Tech also known has Centura College (2006).
On August 16, 1993, she joined into marriage Craig M. Melvin, Sr. and from this union two children were born Craig, Jr. and Candace. Val had several jobs, but her most precious and lasting one was assisting in the rearing of her grandchildren.
Val had several jobs, but her most precious and lasting one was assisting in the rearing of her grandchildren. Val was a no nonsense person. She said what she meant and meant what she said; and all those who knew her loved her for being who she was.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother Hamilton, Sr. and Rosalyn T. Haynes. She leaves to cherish some of her most fondest memories; her husband, Craig, Sr., son, Craig, Jr., daughter, Candace and (step daughter), Mia; grandchildren, Payton Daniels, Pariss Daniels, Azariah Wright, Jayla Wright and Diamond Sykes; sisters, Pamela (Michael) and Veronica (Jimmy); brothers, Ronnie, Hamilton, Jr. and Garret Haynes; father and mother in law, Raymond and Lucille Melvin and a host of other relatives and friends.
