Valerie Denise (Grandison) Faison, born on August 6, 1957, went home to be with the lord on July 26, 2024, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Valerie’s beauty, generosity, and infectious laugh left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Originally from Smithfield, Virginia but raised in the Deep Creek area of Chesapeake, Valerie lived a life filled with compassion and warmth. She was known for her generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word or warm hug. Her radiant smile and joyful presence brought happiness to everyone around her, making her an irreplaceable wife, mother, grandma, sister, auntie, and friend to many.

Valerie is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years Joseph W. Faison Jr.; her daughters Nikeva Bailey, Tiffany Smith (Stephen M. Smith), Crystal Faison, and Jessica Rayner (Joseph Rayner); her grandchildren, Joseph W. Faison III, Alaina Rankins, Jordan Rayner, Zion Bailey, Jayla Rayner, Justice Rayner, Leila Smith, Harper Smith, Nya Smith and Kian Brown; her siblings, Alfred Grandison (Shirlene Grandison), Ruby Grandison, Lorenzo Grandison, Enavid (Navi) Grandison and Varden Grandison; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Valerie’s light may have dimmed on earth, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

    Nikki, Tiffany and Mr. Joe and family. I’m truly sorry for your loss. Aunt Val was a rare jewel who will live on in some many hearts. I’m glad I was able to see and talk to her one last time.     To Mr. Joe and the family, “I have no words” has been my statement from time I received the news. Some individuals come into your life for a reason and a season. And to know Ms. Val these last three years have been such a joy. The encouragement from a simple text or phone call has left an impact on my life that I will forever treasure. Her “act” of kindness and love spoke louder than words, that I will treasure. I pray that as you navigate through this new journey, you will remember the Lord is with you and will give you the peace needed in the quiet times.
